Building a Hyper-local Marketplace to Reduce Food Waste

Food waste happens locally — unsold meals at restaurants, surplus bakery items at closing time, and excess inventory at neighborhood grocery stores often end up discarded simply because there is no efficient way to connect supply with nearby demand in real time.

Our goal was to build a hyper-local digital marketplace that enables food businesses to list surplus food and allows nearby consumers to discover and purchase these items at discounted prices before they go to waste.

Smart Green Supply Chain Optimisation

Before the transformation, logistics operations were highly fragmented across multiple vendors, manual processes, and disconnected systems. Shipment planning focused primarily on cost and speed, with little visibility into environmental impact. Carbon emissions were neither measured consistently nor factored into operational decisions, exposing the business to regulatory risk as new EU sustainability regulations came into force.

Our objective was to help the organisation transition from reactive compliance to proactive, AI-driven sustainability operations, turning regulatory pressure into a competitive advantage.

MVP Product Sprint

Founder had a concept for a circular packaging tracker, a pitch to an impact fund in 10 weeks, and no product. We ran a tailored 8-week sprint — embedding sustainability into every layer of the build and prioritising ruthlessly with S-RICE. Founder walked into their pitch with a working MVP, validated user feedback, and an Impact³ scorecard that made investors pay attention. Pre-seed round closed six weeks later.

A live product, paying customers, and no idea what to build next. Through six months of Founders Access advisory, we helped them strip back a bloated road-map, build a Sustainable-Led Product Strategy, and re-frame their metrics for a seed raise. Churn dropped 35%, their story sharpened, and they raised £600K from a climate-aligned VC.
